Soulfly Show

Posted by #691 Dustin Cohenour at 07-15-1999 12:32 AM

Anyone catch the Soulfly show at the Crowbar and/or the 9:30 Club? I fucking missed Will Haven, Amen, and Hatebreed because of one of my friends. I caught most of Neurosis and all of Soulfly at least. Soulfly totally brought the house down. It was soo insane...I could barely breathe and I couldn't move at all but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. Max Cavalera is GOD. By the way, speaking of Soulfly, I heard rumors of them breaking up...their official site is gone www.soulfly.com ; it's replace by some damn 4:20 page, the 420 lounge or some shit like that. If anyone knows anything let me know...I heard it was his wife that's causing this again, just like what happened with Sepultura a few years back.

I saw Soulfly last night at 9:30 and it fucking ruled. The whole show wwnt like this- Will Haven: alright but a little to weak and boring for my tastes, Hatebreed: Fucking awesome- pumped out mad power for their entire set (which unfortunately is really short due to the lenght of their songs!), Neurosis: Well, I'm not sure what to say about them, not good, but umm it was like 45 mins of wierd ass goth type rock that generally got boring before their 10 min songs were over, good lights and effects behind the band though, in my opinion the light guy for their band should be paid more than them but what ever. And Finally Soulfly. They were great. I met The guitarist that was playing with them last night, Mikey, and got his autograph. He was a really nice guy. I almost met Max but, no well. Oh I did meet the guitarist from Hatebreed, he was talking on the payphone in front of 9:30 while I was in line. But anyway back to Soulfly. They came out with mad ass tribal beats kicking everyone's asses. They played some old Sepultura shit that was kick ass too.Max's son came out and rapped during Bleed which was cool as shit. They ended the encore with more tribal drums where all of the band, Max's son and a couple of people from backstage came in beat on drums and shit. It was so good. I recommend seeing Soulfly and Hatebreed next time they are around. Later. P.S. I can find out for you about them breaking up, my friend Steve works for the Roadrunner Street Team and did an interview with Max before last nights show, I'll see if he heard anything about it.

Okay, thanks Ben. Mikey, the guitarist you met is from Snot, he was playing instead of Logan, that's why I think they're breaking up. It was rumored that the drummer was also going to leave but he was with them on the tour so far...I coulda met Mikey also but I didn't wanna bother him unless he happened to walk past me or whatever. I followed him out of the Crowbar where he went to the tourbus but I didn't say anything. Members from the other bands were carrying equipment out and stuff when we were just getting there. I heard Hatebreed was good, I wish I wouldn't have missed them. Neurosis sucks ass though I agree, I can't stand 10 minutes of the same one long note being played constantly, their stage setup was pretty cool however. I wish I coulda met Max, I would've done anything just say "you guys fucking rule" I was hoping to see him walking out or something but I didn't.
