Rammstein kicked ass, Delaware smells
Posted by #43 Will Miller at 09-26-1998 12:00 AM
Our trip to Rammstein began from the DHS student parking lot, where Jeremy (#130), Jesse (#27), Craig (#31), Maggie (#110), Krad (#9), Jeremiah (#236), Joe(#8), Ben (#3) and I (#43) met Cary (#1), Alex (#190), Cody (#226), Tyler (#290) and Liz (#297). To the dumbasses out there who laughed at us for driving to Philly, the ride wasn't bad at all. A minivan full of people with a CD player passes the time quickly. We enjoyed sucking on Craig's delicious frosty balls all the way there. Delaware smells BAD. That's all I need to say about that. In Philly, there is shit EVERYWHERE. The roads aren't wide enough to park on the sides, so parking is available in the middle of some roads. Jeremiah described Philly as, "the city of brotherly love, where everyone gets gang-banged like little bitches". Fortunately, Cary brought his "gat" to protect us. It was a plastic orange gun that shot plastic bullets. I felt safe. We got out of the cars on South Street and walked to a cheesesteak restaurant. On the way, we passed a store called the Condom Kingdom, devoted entirely to the sale of condoms, and another store called The Mood, which said "Vibrators and people not included". The Philly cheesesteaks kicked ass. We returned to the First Union Spectrum parking lot and waited until about 6:15PM, when we entered and had a look at our seats in the upper level. We realized soon after arrival that there was an unusually large amount of event staff, making it harder for us to do what we wanted. At 7:00, Orgy came out on stage. By 7:15, Cody had found us some tickets to get into the lower level and planned to somehow get us past 2 more "checkpoints" to the mosh pit. Once we were in the lower level, Cody said that Ben "didn't make it". Limp Bizkit was 2nd, the entire band entering from a crashed UFO. We had hoped that the lead singer of Limp Bizkit would lead the entire audience to jump the fence to the general admission area, as he had done in previous shows. However, the only thing that happened is that the event staff kicked us out of the seats we were in, over and over. Ice Cube was the next one on stage, getting the largest audience participation of the night with the song "Fuck You Ice Cube". Finally he left and it was only a matter of time before Rammstein appeared. They opened with the song Rammstein and ended with Engel. In between, they performed Tier, Weisses Fleisch, Sehnsucht, Du Hast, Heirate Mich, Asche Zu Asche and Büch Dich. Their special effects were "pretty damn kickass", including Till Lindermann lighting himself on fire and beating himself with the microphone. He also had a flamethrower and a bow that shot arrows above the audience, sending sparks everywhere. Their biggest impression was made during Büch Dich when Till pulled out his fake dick and fucked the keyboarist, just like in Germany. The mosh pit was dissapointing for Rammstein, although I strongly believe that it would've been different had our group been in it. Sadly, Rammstein took their bows and left the stage with mixed reviews from the audience. Krad said, "They made an impression, whether it was good OR bad." Korn took the stage at about 10:30 and played for nearly an hour. Their stage setup included a 2 story cage which held backstage fans. They played a unique set of medleys, combining many of their songs from all three albums. The entire floor moved during their set, although I don't think the pit was that rough because of the event staff scattered throughout the area. Closing the show, Korn came back on stage with Ice Cube and Limp Bizkit and performed All in the Family. Maggie said, "It fucking kicked ass!!! I LOVE KORN!!!" Overall, we learned that Rammstein kicks ass and that Philly Event Staff have 4" oak rods shoved up their asses. We all look forward to the next local Family Values date, at the Patriot Center in DC on Halloween. Tickets go on sale this coming Saturday. Talk to Cody or submit for details on tickets. One way or another, we'll have General Admission tickets for this one. GWAR is coming up on October 21st at the 9:30 Club. Get your tickets now. We should try Metro Tag again sometime. Contact Ben if you have any ideas/comments/questions. No replies.
