School strikes again... on the west?

Posted by #409 Jeremy Williams at 05-19-1999 7:17 PM

Wow, what better way to celebrate becoming the new official netCULT CHS representative then to loose my internet privileges for looking at netCULT?

Yesterday during computer programing I was killing time, waiting for our cheap, outdated, and slow server to boot up since it had crashed, and I decided to check out netCULT. I had to have the server up since the program my group and I am working on is stored there. I was looking at theLIST to see if anyone new had joined that I know.

Then I went to the Newz to check out what was happening. I found that I had been given the job I asked for--CHS netCULT Rep. I posted a reply. Then, the server was back up so I got off. I then began to do my work.

Today during first period I got called down to the office to have a talk with and administrator and some tech people. They believed that what I had done was wrong, and warranted the loss of my internet account here at school. They showed me screen shots of MY SCREEN (so they obviously have all of our computers under surveillance remotely...) and told me that such sites were unacceptable since there were names on theLIST like pixie fuck or the mad bomber. So, they said that was enough to take it away. Then they said that since I participated in a form of chat that I was definitely going to loose it. This was after I convinced them that THE CULT is harmless, which was a bit tough...I really don't care though...oh no! I can't use the internet for the rest of the school year! AHHHH! Too bad I rarely use it at school anyways...Hopefully they won't try to block me from using it ever again though.

Then, to top it off, they want to take me out of Computer Programming for this. This being my second offense. A few weeks ago I had installed this extension on like 8 of the computers (Our district uses macs) that allowed me to trigger a dinosaur to run across each screen it was installed on one by one (roaring very loudly, even if the volume was off). This was hilarious...until they found out who did it. I got suspended from computer programming for 5 days..big whoop. But now, they wanna take me out for good and give me an F. That is bullshit. What the hell is so wrong about THE CULT? In our internet contract all it says is that for the first offense of bad language the student's parents will be notified and the student will be talked to. This is my first language offense! But, under the second offense it talks about POSSIBLE loss of a credit class. Well, I don't know how they can do that. What if I accessed THE CULT from the library, would they still try to kick me out of Computer Programming? And what fucking harm can I do in programming now? I have NO internet access any longer and the computers are locked down hella tight so it would be hard to get around anything...

Oh well, I just thought I share with everyone and vent a bit. Later...

Well they've threatened to do stuff like that at our school, but the people who would do stuff to us already know about THE CULT and what it is. Plus, our system adminstrator is a member... hehe. Web design class really leaves a lot of room for us to do stuff we want, like work on netCULT. For example, I'm pretty sure at least SOME of the graphics on this site were made by K-rad during 5th period. So, we're safe this year, but in years past I'm sure Ben and Cary had to talk to administration about games or unauthorized use of internet. Knowing the USS helps though.

Jobarr - Good luck in dealing with your administration. It's funny how they change rules to fit what they think should be done, etc. If you wanna have some fun with them, learn the exact wording of the rules and play around.
