Rammstein/Soulfly [Nations]

Wow. That was by far the best Rammstein performance we've seen yet. Nations wasn't as ghetto as I thought it would be, we didn't get shot at or anything. Jeremy's mom was nice enough to drop us off right in front of the door. We waited in line for a little while, as did the other group. So in our group it was Jeremy, Jesse, Craig, Judy, Katie, K-rad and me. In the other group was Jeremiah, Cary, Ben, b0b, Jon and Joe.
Once we were all inside, we waited for over an hour for Skunk Anansie, who never played. A shame, really. Jon, K-rad and Cary entertained themselves on the dance floor, grooving to techno and industrial, although industrial is a little harder to do...
Soulfly finally went on stage and we made our way into the main room. The pit was pretty small, but rough. They turned out a pretty decent show, although it's really not going to matter how good you are if you're followed by Rammstein. They thanked everyone for coming at the end after some introductions and thanked "the Rammstein people" for having them on their tour.
After a short break of setting up pyrotechnics and allowing us time to get drinks, (K-rad you still owe me that money..) the lights went down. Rammstein opened with Spiel Mit Mir, Flake appearing first from a cloud of smoke, followed by each of the band members in the same manner. Finally Till appeared for the vocals from the center of the stage. They followed with Heirate Mich, Stripped, Bestrafe Mich, Weisses Fleish, Asche Zu Asche, Sehnsucht, Klavier, Du Hast, Du Riechst So Gut, Tier, Büch Dich, and Engel. They left the stage after Till said "thank you". After a minute or two of Rammstein chants, they returned for their encore of Rammstein, Laichzeit and Wollt Ihr Das Bett in Flammen Sehen.
The effects were outstanding to say the least. Das Bett in Flammen had probably the most explosions, where Till was delivered a flamethrower. I think Cary was in love when he saw it. Till lit explosives hanging from the ceiling, being careful not to toast the catwalk and curtains TOO much. As in previous shows, he lit himself on fire during Rammstein and Flake donned his masachistic attire during Büch Dich. I think it was during Sehnsucht where fire leaped to the ceiling from the stage as Till summoned it during the chorus. For Engel, Bobo made a guest appearance to do the chorus vocals. As in the video, she was in a cage.
As far as the audience's response, they loved it. b0b said "that was only the BEST show I've ever seen". Cary said "I think I'll have to go with b0b on that". Jon said "I think b0b knows what he's talking about". Craig said "b0b's a smart man". We weren't the only one's who thought that either: I heard this middle aged guy talking to his kid during the beginning of their set - "See, I told you they were great... and they haven't even started."
SEV was even at the show, we talked to Max and Danny on the way out, since they were promoting their show at Nations on Saturday. (Everyone should go if you're still in town - free with HFStival ticket stub)
Thanks again to Jeremy's mom for driving - she took us to 7-11 after the show to get drinks. Then we had the pleasure of getting out of DC. Little did we know it was BJ-day. At one stoplight we were at, you could see the passenger of the car get out of her seat. Then the driver was kinda bobbing his head back and forth, obviously not paying attention to the light, since he didn't go until he was honked at. He did this at the next light too. Although we couldn't really tell for sure, I don't think she could've been doing anything else that would've produced the same results. Needless to say it was funny, especially Mrs. Huber complaining about "her virgin ears" when we were talking about it.
We all got home eventually. Katie has the right idea when she said "I don't care what else happens this summer, it's going to be great because of Rammstein". I'll have pictures up sometime since I took my camera, but it probably won't be soon since I dropped my camera at the beginning of Du Hast and it's pretty damn broken. Hopefully the film can be saved. No replies.
