Damascus Hardware Jam

Posted by #43 Will Miller at 08-22-1999 12:48 PM

I don't have much to say about the Hardware Jam, mainly because I wasn't there for that long, but wanted to get back into the habit of writing newz more frequently.

For those of you who don't know what it was, the Hardware Jam was a charity event at the closed Boyer and Cramer Hardware store to benefit the Damascus High School Marching Band. Anyhow, it was kinda cool, seemed to be a good way for all the supermotivated SGA high-schoolers to keep busy organizing stuff even before school starts back up. I don't have any figures whatsoever on how much money was collected for the DHS marching band, maybe John will have some of that.

On the other end, the event was beneficiary to the bands who played, gaining publicity and recognition from their local community. Bakufu was still up to par, despite the change in overall sound since losing one member. SyntheticdreaM provided a contrast to the style that seemed prominent throughout the event, reminding everyone to join THE CULT. Great set, despite the wonderful sound levels.

Afterwards, the jam continued until 2:30am. Read John Heflin's (yet unwritten) reply to this newz for more details on what happened after.

Great job done, props especially to CULT members who performed or were on the planning crew.

Alrighty, I guess that means I have to write a reply. I dont have a clue how much money was taken in, i did hear about $50 on chips and sodas, pizza not included. I do have to agree with cheez that the sound was wonderful. damn, you would have thought a recording studio could control stuff like that... I had a good time playing there, although our first 2 songs was interesting... since we kinda jam a bit on them, not really following a certain pattern, and I could only hear what i was playing, so I ended up watching what fret (or whatever the hell its called) they were on to figure out where in the song we were. Then someone gave me headphones, and I could hear the vocals and guitar. Apparently from what I heard, I was the only one that actually heard the vocals, heh, good old soundmen doin their job well I see, our vocal mic was turned off during the whole first song. Oh well if anybody wants me to write about the other bands let me know, and if you ask me, the last band was sooo bad it put me to sleep. People thought their singer was strange, i thought he might have been a bit fruity.

it was ok i guess...not all that interesting, except for cody will and vinnie. they did good and such, like usual, except for codys guitar not being like heard for the first song. hmm...the silly string was a nice touch, thats about it!

SyntheticdreaM owns me.. hehe. Well, they're good nonetheless. Anyhow, our small mosh pit got dangerous due to the strobe light distorting our perception of space.. allowing brett cary and I to smack heads together despite any coordination we thought we had.

My head has since forgiven me.

no kidding, moshing with a stobe is hard. One second Tom's across the room, the next he's right in your face and the next you're flying through the air into the people in the back. Oh well, it was fun anyways.

Info on the Hardware jam- The boosters took in a total of about $1500. Unfortunately, we also have to cover the expenses for putting on the show, like insurance and sound guys. George Cramer was so happy with it that he is contimplating doing it annually or semi-annually, but thats not final. I'm all for that because there are always new bands forming, lets just hope they don't suck. I had a great time even if my mike didn't work during my solo, thanks again sound guys. I hope everyone else had a good time.
MOMO!
