moving again, downtime, etc

Posted by #4 b0b at 02-21-2000 6:09 AM

I'll probably be moving netcult to yet another computer, most likely "juggalo", my dual celeron 366 with 320 megs of ram... quite a bit beefier than the current setup, but it'll only be temporary.. I can't hax0r my kernel without rebooting, you know. Besides, I trust UMCP's network little farther than I can throw it.

Anyhow, those of you that use netcult for email or webspace.. save copies of all your email and all of your important files. I'll do what I can to move everything over without disturbing too much, but honestly, theres a shitload of stuff and I'm only human (well, rumor has it at least... besides, human or not I'm typically suffering from a condition known as "sleep withdraw").

Oh, and make sure you KNOW your login and password if you have an email or webspace account. Particularly with webspace, I doubt I'll be able to move your password over due to the fact that slackware 7 and debian slink probably use different password encryption schemes. No, I don't keep everyone's password for myself.. its not a Nice Thing To Do(tm).

Those of you that need quick-access so they can update their web stuff should email me, lcracker@netcult.org with their login and password.. so, if the encryption schemes are different, I can add it manually right away.

If it happens this week, it'll happen by Thursday 2/24/00. Friday I'm going out of town, if the changeover happens and stuff fucks up while I'm away, get in touch with #3 (Sonuvbob via AIM is the best way to get ahold of him if netcult is down). Another newz announcement will be posted as soon as it happens.

Worst case scenario: Netcult is down for a few days, but as always, it will be back
Best case scenario: Netcult will be down for a few minutes/hours depending on DNS situation, my luck, etc.
