netCULT status update

Ben, Cary, Krad and I spent Saturday buying parts for the new netCULT server, in the hopes that Ben can finally get back to killing people. The Timonium computer show and sale was complete with clowns and an elephant outside the circus tent. Once inside, we quickly secured the required items at very low prices. Yeah, right.Nothing was too much more than we expected, and we were able to get all the shit needed except a harddrive and processor, which have been donated by your CULT creator and b0b, respectively. "Thanks" to all those who donated funds. After the compshow, we headed to the local Wendy's, had some JBC's, filled out a few employment applications and then left. And no, we didn't misappropriate CULT funds for food. From Smiley's house, our next stop, we picked up some random parts - floppy drive, cd-rom drive, network card and ISA video card. (side note: Krad nabbed another network card that he assumed was broken, so he tossed it out my car window going down Newbury Rd... He claims it "boomeranged" and then smashed into the ground. He picked it up later and Ben took it home. It works.) Anyways we needed a harddrive, so we stopped by Cary's house to pick it up, and started assembling everything while he copied files over to his main drive. There was an ensuing trip to the Computer Place by Denny's, to realize that they were closed already, then a stop at CompUSA, just for laughs. netCULT is still running on Ben's pIII, but should be switched over hopefully early this week. He's currently in the process of rewriting basically all of netCULT's coding, so if you have suggestions, use da box. It's not too late to give donations if you forgot, or weren't around, or didn't have the money at the time, etc. - email Ben. We still need a harddrive that can belong to netCULT, and more memory never hurt anyone. If anyone is inclined to worship Ben or any/all CULTstaff members as their personal savior(s), feel free to exercise that right. There's gonna be some "technical difficulties" for a little while, such as CULTmail not quite working, etc. Our tech support engineer, Gwar P. Rammstein, is standing by to take calls/emails to help 24hrs a day (complain to him). « replies »

I didnt "assume" it was broken, that's what smiley said. The fact that it works after it hit asphalt at a speed a approx. 50mph (+ friction + centripetal force - the force I threw it with - wind resistence) is cool though.
