"Gritcon 2K1 / Cary's birthday party big hit" rave local papers!

Posted by #1 Cary C at 07-15-2001 8:26 PM

Saturday night, July 14th, Cary held the second annual Gritcon (name copyright by actual GRiT guys). Anyway, it was a total success.

The party began around 7 o'clock when people began to show up. First there was a quick meal, then a lot of nothing, followed by explosives. In attendance was Cary, Amy, Judy, Nick Hamlin, Maggie, Kait, Maria, Nick Hickman, Mariya, Ben, Cheez, Krad, Chuck, Jono, Carrie, Alison, Jeremiah, Tom, Jim, Mike, Hotrod, Jeremy, Craig, Keith, John Glasby, Laura, Cory, Ashley, and Brady. I think thats everyone. If i missed you, my bad.

Anyway, the night started off with a pretty lame, but rather large sparkler bomb. Then some stupid in-between fireworks to keep the crowd under control. Eventually, after Laura showed up it was time to set off the first GRiT Truck.

The first car we did was Amy's car. The "off road Hyundai" as it was being called. We all piled into four cars and headed out. After finding a spot, we made sure all was clear, and Nick and myself set it off. It went off very well, very big, and very loud. As soon as we got home we found Hotrod waiting for us. He brought with him a nice large box of fireworks (as did Ashley earlier in the evening). We found some sparklers in the box so we made another sparkler bomb. This one went off perfectly. We then extinguished it with the proper liquid, Diet Coke, and began to contemplate where the next GRiT could be done.

Before we could think of a good place Hotrod (AKA Mr. Wizard) showed us how to make a rocket out of a soda can, a tub of water, and a black cat. These things shot like 30-40 feet into the air. Needless to say i was very impressed. This thrilled us for hours (or at least it seemed like hours).

Later, we left to detonate the second GRiT. This time it was Judy's train. We found a nice secluded place, and set it off. It went great. The thing did flips all over the road, and blew up extravagantly. No large crackling explosion like in Amy's though, just loud explosions, and a small dragon. We high tailed it out of there.

Upon returning home, we found cops in my neighborhood looking for something (probably us) so we circled out, dumped out all incriminating evidence, drove back past the now two cop cars and rolled off to Keith's. We chilled here until Cheez called to tell us all was clear and to come back home. This was quite a relief seeing as there were large ammounts of fireworks, powder, and realistic looking airsoft guns strewn about my back yard and basement. Well we came back, packed everything up, and called it a night.

All in all, the night was a total success, no one went to jail, no one got caught, and we all had a damn good time.

Da man who gets it all on tape gets the shaft and no mention about Judy's Grit Train doing a 180 and heading straight for me, having to jump over it, run, and keep it in frame the whole time... ahh well, at least I have the sight back in my right eye.

I believe there were 5 cars. You need to digitize those vids too. You can get my photos at Jenn's lan party this friday.

GRiT Plane and GRiT 'vette both successfull

Ok, well yesterday me, Nick, and Amy set off the plane and 'vette. Both went extremely well. The plane actually took off, flew through the trees, fired the 4 bottle rockets, and circled around and landed right where it took off from. Beat that shit! The video however did not turn out as well as planned, it was nearly impossible to follow the plane through the trees. But you can hear everything go off. haha.

The 'vette shot down the road like a rocket, staying almost completely straight. At the end of its run it went kind of wobbly. Then the ejection charge blasted the 2 m-80's that were in the seats, thus blowing off the bottom of the 'vette.

The plane is ready to be fixed up and flown again. Me and Nick are currently thinking of new ways to mount the engines on it to get a better flight path. The 'vette however is pretty trashed, considering we broke the wheel off before even setting it off the first time, its in no shape to be refitted.

Look for video of all this action soon!
