Netcult Goes Down Due to Terrorist Attack
Posted by #267 Ethan Baker at 09-15-2001 5:05 PM
On Thursday, September 13, 2001, netCULT went down due to terrorism, not long after warnings of netCULT's possible collapse were posted to the graffitiWALL. Netcult gets is Internet connection through Speakeasy (www.speakeasy.net) on a New York City loop. Power outages in New York at Speakeasy's point-of-pressence (POP) caused the company to run on emergency power. However, the POP was forced to shutdown when the generators providing the emergency power overheated. While it is unknown as to what happened that restored Internet service to netCULT, it is certainly good to see it back up. I, for one, never thought I would see the day that netCULT went down due to terrorism.

Netcult will be moving its IP address on or about the 25th. Thus, it will be down for the time needed to work through the transitition. Netcult's connection is going to be routed through Seattle.
